2025 Inaugural Porchfest - October 5
Welcome to the 1st Auburn Porchfest!
Porchfest is a unique do-it-yourself community music festival that unites neighbors through the joy of live music performances. The event highlights local talent and fosters a sense of harmony and connection among residents.
How It Works
Hosts: Local residents in Auburn, California, volunteer their porches, time, and energy to host musicians to perform a 1-hour music set during the community music festival.
Musicians: Various musicians, artists, and performers apply to participate and are selected to showcase their talent at different locations throughout the festival.
Event organizers: Secure permits, obtain event insurance, and create schedules and maps to guide attendees through the various performance locations featuring live music. Community Building: These porchfests provide a unique opportunity for neighbors to connect, support local artists, and celebrate their vibrant community.

About the instructor:
Frederick Marx is an ordained Rinzai Zen priest in the Hollow Bones Order. His teacher was Junpo Denis Kelly, whose teacher was Eido Shimano. Frederick has been a student and practitioner of Buddhism for 37 years. Having studied di\erent traditions, including with Soka Gakkai International, Vippassana, and Tibetan teachers, he brings an undogmatic, non-sectarian approach – whatever works to bring relief, healing, and awakening is good. And so is humor!
